bARBARA Í gONGINI

by Yaya.

I am the type of person who defends the concept of the album in music. Those who would like to torch down iTunes because a world composed exclusively of singles is definitely not the kind of world I want to live in. Because I believe in the idea of the whole, what I enjoy the most is atmosphere which is the most difficult thing to convey. Atmosphere demands a certain silence and space that does not exist in songs but in the spaces between them.

When I get home, I kick out my shoes, put on my headphones and sit in the dark I find out more things about the author from listening to an entire album than twelve single songs will ever reveal, because it all lies in the order, the stacking, the fluidity of it all… change the order and you have an entirely different creature. Anyway, to point: bARBARA Í gONGINI’s collection might not be infused with signature pieces. To call it groundbreaking would be stretching it. But one thing she does have is fluidity. Each piece seems to evolve effortlessly into the next. It is an experiment in shape and form, and seeing it piece by piece, from beginning to end, you realize that it is pretty much like learning history. You can clearly see the creative process with all its momentum crystallized in sequence. Furthermore, the result is quite streamlined and graceful. It is precise and simple, like something you would pull out of Clemence Poesy’s closet.
